Water kefir grains are reusable indefinitely when properly cared for. Simply transfer them into fresh sugar water after each batch.

Dehydrated water kefir grains will take around 3–5 days to rehydrate and become active. Fresh grains are active from your first batch.

Healthy grains typically become plumper, more translucent, and begin fermenting sugar water. It may take a few brewing cycles before they perform at their best.

Not necessarily. Newly rehydrated grains often need a few batches before becoming fully active. Also, most carbonation develops during the second fermentation in sealed bottles, not during the first ferment.
